ReCharge 1 year (+) later
We have received many inquiries about how the NY Power Authority’s (NYPA) ReCharge program has performed over its first year. Energy purchasers want to know how their ReCharge program costs compare to the utility default tariff and/or a market index. And you also want to know whether it was a better decision to take the Blended Rate or the Hydro Only option. (If you require more background information, take a look at this explanation of the ReCharge NY program here.)
Here’s what we’ve learned.
A downstate buyer who purchased the blended option (hydro-only + market index procured by NYPA) fared slightly better than one who bought the hydro only option, when comparing to the utility default tariff.
The blended NYPA ReCharge product had supply costs that were lower by 5-6% compared to the utility default tariff, whereas the hydro-only purchase was lower by 3-4% compared to the utility default tariff.
How did you fare? Were you better off?
