The Megawatt Hour- Energy Management – Energy Information

A startling look at recent cost data

A startling look at recent cost data Shift in delivery vs. supply costs as components of total cost We were analyzing forecasts of usage and cost data over the weekend and found a surprising shift in the electricity landscape.  Due in large part to low natural gas prices and, also, as a result of increases […]

Market Update January 5, 2012

We take a look at how prices have changed in the markets every day. Here’s a snapshot of where markets are and how they’ve moved in the last day or so.

What is going on with natural gas.. and how long will it last?

What is going on with natural gas.. and how long will it last? Clients have been asking us what has been happening with natural gas prices (they are low and seem to be falling daily)?  You can see historical gas prices here. Welcome to The Megawatt Hour

In many respects, this platform is the result of having spent years in the energy industry, and hearing from customers that you have been dis-satisfied with the experience of buying electricity and natural gas. Business customers have told us quite a bit about their experiences— you’ve said things like: “I’ve been buying electricity for more than 10 years, and I’ve never really understood it”. We’ve heard people say “I never know whether I have done a good deal or not.” And then there’s… “I don’t trust anyone in the industry”. What we find remarkable about all of these comments is that there has been almost no focus on simplifying the information flows in this industry, unlike the information flows in other deregulated industries, like airlines, hospitality or financial services. Where are the information services that have brought new products, services, and value to customers of all kinds of other industries? It is this lack of free-flowing information that we are working to address.

Ceding control…

Ceding control… I came across an interesting blog post by a venture capitalist who was exploring the risks to entrepreneurs of ceding control to intermediaries, like bankers, agents, recruiters, etc.  Here’s a link to the post by Mark Suster (“Don’t Cede Control: Why You Need to Cut out Middle Men in Negotiations”).  It made me […]
